Hi! Eren here.
So, one of the things I wanted to do with the site this time around was post a little bit more… not about myself, necessarily, but about what I’m up to – particularly in regards to writing. I’m hoping that will help me keep myself a bit more accountable; a bit more motivated.
So, today’s tally:
I’m only writing one story at the moment, Abby’s story “Midnight Moonlight.” And today I wrote 4 additional pages. 🙂 Which is good, since 4 pages a day is my self-set goal.
I should probably clarify, though, that when I say “page” I’m not talking about a typed page or even a full sheet of handwritten paper. I used to write in those little pocket notebooks you get for your purse, because it was something I could carry around anywhere and jot down a paragraph whenever I had a spare moment. Unfortunately, it got to the point where I couldn’t write on full size 8.5×11 notebooks or papers – all that white space was way too intimidating. So when they stopped making the notebooks that I liked (I’m picky! I don’t like the ones that aren’t stitch-bound. Spiral bound pocket notebooks always get the spiral bent, and glue bound notebooks always have pages fall out) I started folding regular sheets into fourths and working with those.
Now, that makes it sound like a “page” isn’t really very much, but I also write very tiny. To give you an idea of what I mean, here’s a scan of the rough draft of “page 1” of Midnight Moonlight.
It comes out so that 4 “pages” is about 1000 words, when I get around to typing them. So, that’s the goal I’ve been setting myself. I would really, really like to write more than that, but I don’t want to dedicate myself to a number that’s too ambitious (which 4 pages a day may already be… we’ll see.)
On average, a chapter of Midnight Moonlight is about 8 of my pages – 2000 words, so far. So 4 pages a night should let me keep up with M-W-F updates even after the few chapters I’ve already written are up.
Heh. Thinking about ‘maintaining buffer posts’ takes me back to my webcomicing days! And reminiscing about that makes me realize that it is waaaaay too late and I’m getting rambly. So that’s all for tonight. 🙂 Enjoy the story!
